Blackwatch Plaid Chardon

Image
This skirt is something that I don't do very often - making 2 things from the same fabric! This is a Chardon skirt. Again. You will have seen it before a bunch of other times. I've made it in black (twice), in brown corduroy, in blue and red... I love it. After making the Blackwatch Plain Ruby dress, which I love, I realised that I had heaps left over. Like, a lot. So I did what any self-respecting sewist would do. I used the same fabric to make a skirt! I cut my usual size, which is a 44 and it still fits great. I used bias for the hem and it looks great, and I used a lightweight slinky poly lining from my stash for the pockets. Not much else to say other than it gets a lot of wear and it's another great cold weather option!

The Best Basic Skirt (with bonus fandom!)

Hey everyone, hope your Monday night is as awesome as mine! I've been crazy productive today after work, which is always good, I have work booked for the rest of the week, and I will have time to sew after dinner... Win-win-win! Yesterday, the Boyfriend/Photographer and I finally headed out on a small adventure to take some new blog photos of some old makes. Luckily, there are lots of nice places around where we live, inluding Sydney Olympic Park. We headed into Bicentennial Park (which is huge - we got 3 sets of photos in very different settings), to the pretty Lake Belvedere. It even has a little walkway with a small island, and is surrounded by all kinds of birds (and on our sunny Sunday afternoon, two wedding parties). (How cool is that bridge? Well, it was cool until  my shoe went through a gap and I almost fell...) The make I want to share with you today is this skirt. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. A lot of my makes are very bright and colourful, and I love that, but I rea...

Flashback - Circle Skirt: Scotland Check

Image
Having made so many dresses, I wanted something else. My favourite skirt is a high waisted one with a gathered skirt and waistband, covered in multi-coloured polka dots. I wanted another skirt that I wanted to wear just as much, and given that I wear this skirt on average twice a week, I'd say I was onto a winner. [Since writing this post, that has been upped to at least 3 times a week, I think. It's so comfy and versatile!] This is a self-drafted 3/4 circle skirt (drafted using this tutorial ). I wanted a full circle but didn't have enough of this lovely weight check fabric, so 3/4 it is! Both the Scotland Check fabric and the black Bemsilk lining I used were from Lincraft, again. The skirt is cut to 22" to hit just above my knee. I ended up putting a few tabs on the waistband - it was just a little loose when completed. I love how twirly this is! New skills: self-drafted.
