New Style? The Lander pants

The final thing I wanted to make while I was in Australia was a huge departure in style for me. Although my style mostly consists of high waisted skirts with floaty tops, or dresses with a high waisted fitted bodice and a big skirt. Basically, quite 50s vintage vibe.

So having high waisted trousers maybe does make sense, but I've never worn any before. So, in Australia with time and the Lander pattern (also bought in a Black Friday sale), I decided why not? I'd give it a go.



With the plan to make a wearable toile, I thought of using corduroy fabric, again from Spotlight. And even though I had a plain color in mind, when I saw this fabric it just spoke to me! It was the perfect autumn fabric (and with the top I am wearing, which is from Cotton On, it's the perfect warm autumn outfit) and makes the perfect autumn pants! Only problem is that I've gone from Australian summer to British spring... But I forsee a lot of wear in the autumn.



I made a size 12, but at the rage of fitting the side seams took quite a bit out (I don't remember exactly how much though) so next time I'll make a 10, maybe even an 8. But the fit and drafting is fantastic. The wide leg is so classy and comfy, and I really like the detail of a button fly. To make it fit even better I think I'll move the buttons slightly and pull it in at the fly area. But that's all my fault and the point of a toile so I don't mind. I also only noticed in these photos that the waistband is sticking out a bit at the back. I think I need a curved waistband, so I'll use one from another pattern for my next version.



For my first pair of trousers (having only made 1 shorts pattern twice before this), I found it an extremely straightforward sew. The instructions are lovely and very logical. I liked that you get to fit along the way, especially for the first time making a pattern like this.



So it wasn't so scary after all! I'm already planning a shorts pair in a light denim with a little stretch for perfect high waisted summer shorts. Can't wait!

Evening all! It will be a short post tonight, and I also want to apologise for my face in these photos. I had to get these photos done and up today, but I'm ridiculously sick at the moment (and mostly still working, thanks to my profession). The real deal; Sirocco Jumpsuit

Leading into last summer, I made my toile of the Sirocco as a romper. I really liked it and it became my staple wear for those hot days when I didn't leave the house. Now, i've finally go around to making the real deal! This is the jumpsuit pattern, including the pockets and getting the pleats the right way around this time! I also sized down to to a 42 based on the fit of the toile. Constructed entirely on the overlocker makes it fast and quite easy. This is 2 different knit fabrics from Girl Charlee, the last of the fabrics that I won in my bundle at Guthrie and Ghani during the SewBrum raffle in 2019. I didn't have enough to make the jumpsuit all in one fabric, so I used the floral for the top and solid for the trousers. I ended up using the floral for the pockets as well as I didn't have enough of the solid. Luckily they coordinate together really well and look good together. The most comfy; Plaintain PJs

When I made my Plantain tees, I was intending on making some making changes to the pattern. Well, this is the first iteration of them - as pajamas. My favourite pajamas to wear are from Primark. They're a long tee style that covers the butt and they're made of jersey fabrics. I decided that I wanted to try making my own! I used the short sleeve version of the pattern again. I compared the length of my favourite RTW pajamas and lengthened the Plantain pattern 7.5" to match the length. I also compares the waist curve (based on my original adjustment) and realised that it was almost exactly the same which is great because I didn't need to change that at all. I used this John Kaldor viscose jersey in both mustard and black. This was to be the first part of my me made pajama wardrobe and will match with the bottom half fabrics I bought which are Robert Kaufman Mammoth Cotton Flannel.
